The Originals City, Le Beaujoire, Nantes
Hotel-restaurant 3-star in Nantes
Presentation
The Originals City, Le Beaujoire welcomes its guests in a quiet residential street, between the stadium and the Exhibition Center, just a stone’s throw from the Erdre and the Beaujoire floral park. It is easy to get there by car, via the nearby ring road, or by tram, with the stop just a few minutes’ walk away. Nantes city center is only a quarter of an hour away by car: enough time to drop off your bags before a match, a trade show, or simply before heading out to explore the city the next day.
From the moment you enter, the atmosphere stands apart from that of a chain hotel. Pauline, who took over the hotel in 2023 after a career in business management, has preserved the home-like feel that had won her over too: just 48 rooms, a decor that is both modern and warm, and a reception that takes its time.
As you go upstairs, the rooms reveal themselves to be bright, with a desk area and a separate lounge. Some open onto a balcony or terrace, a real bonus on summer evenings since air conditioning is not installed in all rooms: be sure to request it when booking if the cool evening air matters to you. Two rooms are designed for guests with reduced mobility.
On the ground floor, breakfast is served buffet-style, with both savory and sweet options, featuring products sourced very nearby: the cheese and fromage blanc come from Ferme de la Panetière, less than five kilometers away. When the Breton sky cooperates, the terrace and garden take over from the dining room.
The restaurant, Le Bistronome, focuses on market-fresh cuisine that changes with the seasons. Just keep in mind that service is limited to certain weeknights: dining in needs to be planned, not improvised on just any day.
The adjoining bar serves as a transition before heading back upstairs, convenient after a day spent at the Exhibition Center just across the way. And for those arriving late, after a flight or a match that went into extra time, the private parking remains free and accessible at all hours.
One last point before setting off in the morning: breakfast starts as early as 7 a.m. on weekdays, more than enough for an early departure to the Exhibition Center without having to queue.
Summary of a few positive reviews read on the Web
- Helpful and friendly staff, and they offered us an air-conditioned room without any problem when we asked for it on arrival.
- Clean and spacious room, with a small downside regarding the shower but nothing serious, and the neighborhood was really quiet at night.
- Hearty breakfast with fresh products, the cheese comes from a farm less than five kilometers away, which makes a change from the usual buffets.
- Street access with a code, practical and reassuring, and an extra bed provided without any hassle for our child.
- Water fountain and self-service coffee machine in the hallway, a small detail but appreciated after a long day.
- Tram and bus right nearby, we got to Nantes city center without taking the car.
