In the morning, the buffet is set up in the ground-floor room. Freshly squeezed orange juice, still-warm pastries, a few fresh fruits, yogurts, and a cereal corner for those in a hurry. You can take your time or head straight out, depending on the day’s plans.

Upstairs, the forty rooms favor simplicity. Air-conditioned and equipped with a flat-screen TV, they are designed with essentials in mind rather than space: the building is old, the district is dense, and the hotel has chosen to make the most of every square meter rather than give up its location. The family rooms, meanwhile, connect to one another to accommodate two adults and two children without getting in each other’s way. For those familiar with the area, it is better to ask for a courtyard-facing room: Place Graslin comes alive on weekends, and the walls do not filter everything out.

Still on the ground floor, the Bar des Colonies preserves the memory of the building. Its cocktails follow a Nantes-inspired theme, with nods to the Loire, the neighboring vineyards, and the estuary. On the practical side, one point should be noted frankly: there is no private parking, and no bike storage either. The public Graslin car park, 150 meters away, does the job for those arriving by car, but it is better to know before arriving with your luggage and circling the neighborhood.

The tram stops at Commerce, a five-minute walk away, toward the TGV station or the Jardin des Plantes. Nantes SNCF station is a ten-minute walk away, and the airport is twenty minutes away.
