The ChaChaCha Hôtel now occupies the corner of Commandant Charcot Lane in Nantes, right opposite the SNCF train station. The old Hôtel de Bourgogne had to be demolished to make way for this new building: seven floors, a light-colored facade, and a glazed ground floor that gives a glimpse of the lobby’s bustle from the sidewalk.

You push open the door and the music arrives before the view. Salsa, swing jazz, a French song still lingering in your head after check-in. The reception desk also serves as a bar, and for those who prefer to avoid conversation, a touchscreen kiosk lets you collect your key in a few seconds. The staff keep smiling even at busy times, between the rushed morning travelers and local residents who just stop in for a coffee.

Sixty rooms spread across the floors, in three formats: single, double, family. Count on about fifteen square meters, enough to set down a suitcase and sleep comfortably without holding a family meeting in there. The colorful headboards and graphic walls break up the somewhat gray image of station hotels. Shower, hairdryer, air conditioning, wifi that works smoothly. On the upper floors, the view opens over the city rooftops; some rooms even have a small balcony.

On the ground floor, the coworking space and coffee shop are open all day. You’ll see laptops open next to cups of house iced tea, students revising, and passing guests waiting for their train while snacking on a lemon sponge cake. In the evening, the atmosphere changes pace without changing decor: salsa classes or yoga sessions, sometimes streamed directly on the room TV for those who prefer to stay in pajamas.

Breakfast is served in a room dressed with green ceilings and patterned tapestries, pleasant as long as it is not too full: at peak times, it’s better to come down early to find a table. It is not included in the room rate, which also gives you the freedom to try a café in the station district if the mood strikes.

As for commitments, the house has chosen concrete action over rhetoric: refillable toiletries, waste sorting, a water fountain and reusable bottles available, and a QR code instead of a paper guest booklet. Nothing flashy, but the whole thing holds together.

Just a stone’s throw away, the Château des ducs de Bretagne can be reached in five minutes on foot, and the Cité des Congrès in eight. The tram and cycle lanes start almost at the foot of the building.

One last tip for those arriving by car: the station parking lot, right opposite, is handy but expensive overnight — better to park a little farther away if budget matters.
