The Best Western Hôtel Graslin is located in the triangle formed by Passage Pommeraye, the Graslin Theatre, and Cours Cambronne, right in the heart of Nantes. You almost always get there on foot, as the tram and pedestrian streets bring the hotel close to everything else.

The façade says very little. The story begins inside.

Each floor is inspired by a Jules Verne novel. Along the corridors, the colors change, as do the patterns: here a deep blue evoking the abyss, there an ochre recalling explored lands. You don’t always notice it the first time through, and then, as you go up to your room, the thread naturally comes together.

The 47 soundproofed rooms focus on simple comfort: Queen Size bed, bathroom with walk-in shower or bathtub depending on the floor, courtesy tray, and reliable Wi-Fi. The spaces remain modest, between 20 and 25 square meters, which is more than enough for a night or two in the city. Families will find what they need in the Junior Suite, with its two bathrooms and connecting rooms.

On the ground floor, the lounge bar waits for the end of the day. It’s a place to set down your things, check your emails again, or simply watch the street through the window while sipping something strong. The staff move about quietly, speaking French, English, or Spanish depending on who opens the door.

In the morning, head to the breakfast room. The buffet is generous, featuring fresh products and a broad enough selection to satisfy both those with a sweet tooth and those with bigger appetites. The crêpes with salted butter caramel, on some mornings, are worth the trip on their own. For early risers, an express option starts at 5 a.m.; for everyone else, room service remains available at no extra charge.

On the practical side, two details are worth knowing before booking. The hotel does not have private on-site parking, but the Médiathèque parking garage, about a hundred meters away, takes over overnight at a reasonable rate. The building is old and also has many stairs and landings: the hotel states this clearly itself, it is not able to accommodate people with reduced mobility, which is better to know in advance than upon arrival with heavy luggage.

Everything around can be done on foot. The Château des Ducs de Bretagne, the cathedral, La Cigale and its listed woodwork, the Machines de l'île for those traveling with children: a quarter of an hour is enough to reach the essentials.

One last tip for Saturday breakfast: arrive a little before 9 a.m., as the room fills up quickly with regulars from the flea market on Place Graslin, right across the way.
